Dev Blog #01 - itch.io Debut





Hello everyone, thank you for checking out my game!
I uploaded a few images which illustrate some gameplay elements that I thought I should talk about.
You may have notices that some of these images show moments where you are inside and outside of your SHELL at times. These scenarios come in three types: ASSAULT, INFILTRATE, COVERT OPS.
ASSAULT - Locked n' loaded, and ready to go!
Missions where you fight exclusively inside your SHELL are called ASSAULT missions. In this scenario your only objective is to reach the end of the stage and destroy any enemies that gets in your way.
INFILTRATE - A one man army!
Infiltrate missions will require you to briefly exit your mech to navigate areas that are too narrow for your SHELL to enter. Some reasons for this may relate to accessing control panels to open doors or activate elevators to advance further through the stage.
COVERT OPS - A spy who lurks in the shadows!
This mission type is the opposite of ASSAULT, and you will be put in a situation where you are unable to use your SHELL. You must complete these missions on foot without being noticed or engaging the enemy.
These types of missions will be sprinkled throughout the game, with some appearing more often than others. Regardless, I hope everyone will find these stages very fun to pay!
Current gameplay while piloting your SHELL
SHELLs have considerable armor and therefore can withstand a number of attacks before being destroyed. You can also shoot projectiles horizontally, and fly in any direction to maneuver around enemies without worrying about bumping into them. This is the main style of gameplay. Also do note that there are no health items in the game. Keep that in mind when attacking the enemy, and do not be afraid to run to the next stage section where possible!
Current gameplay while on foot
When outside the SHELL, you will not have many options available to you. While you can shoot a projectile, you can not jump, so you will need to figure out better ways to cross gaps. When engaging an enemy SHELL (not advised) it will be game over if they run into you. Essentially causing critical damage. However you will fare better with human enemies, and can withstand a minimum of 1 attack before a game over. Your hit points will replenish over time, so consider this mechanic a kind of "Close Call," feature where you may survive the first hit, but may or may not be so lucky the second time. If you plan to attack enemies, study and plan your approach!
Evolve Or Die
A lengthy mech based platformer similar to the one's found in the 16bit era of gaming, but for the Game Boy Color.
